Elevation Calculator — Cutting Elevation & Volume Effect
Calculate the effect of different cutting elevations on hair shape and volume.
0° = natural fall, 90° = straight out
Length hair is cut to at elevation
How We Calculate This
This calculator shows the effect of different cutting elevations on the finished haircut, including volume distribution, weight position and apparent hair length when it falls back to natural position.
The formula
Apparent fall length = Hair length x cos(elevation angle)
This estimates how long the hair appears when it drops back to natural fall after being cut at elevation.
- 0° = one-length, all weight at perimeter
- 45° = medium layers, weight at mid-lengths
- 90° = uniform layers, even weight
