This calculator estimates the number of pin curls and clips needed based on hair characteristics and curl type, plus timing for setting and drying.
The formula
Curl count = Base count x Density factor x Coverage factor x Curl type factor
Setting time ≈ 1.5 minutes per curl
- Flat curls need ~20% more curls (less coverage per curl)
- Stand-up curls need ~10% fewer (more volume per curl)
- Add 10% extra clips for spares
