What is a reorder point?

The reorder point is the stock level at which you should place a new order so that fresh stock arrives before you run out. It accounts for the time it takes for delivery (lead time) plus a safety buffer for unexpected delays or demand. When stock reaches this level, it is time to order more.

How do I calculate safety stock?

Safety stock = (Maximum daily usage x Maximum lead time) - (Average daily usage x Average lead time). This formula accounts for the worst-case scenario — your busiest day combined with the longest possible delivery time. For salon products, 3-7 days of safety stock is typical.

How much should I order each time?

The order quantity depends on your storage space, budget and any minimum order values from suppliers. A common approach is to order one month supply at a time. Consider bulk discounts — ordering more may reduce the per-unit cost. Balance the savings against the cost of tying up cash in stock.

What if my supplier has a minimum order?

If the supplier has a minimum order value, you may need to order several products together. Plan your orders so multiple products hit their reorder points around the same time. Some salons designate a weekly "order day" and check all products against their reorder points at once.
