Over-Direction Calculator — Length & Weight Variation
Plan over-direction techniques for creating length and weight variations in cuts.
How far from natural fall
Length of your cutting guide
How We Calculate This
This calculator estimates the length variation created when hair is over-directed from its natural fall position before cutting. The further hair is pulled from its natural position, the greater the length difference when it falls back.
The formula
Length difference = Over-direction amount x 0.8
Resulting length = Guide length ± Length difference
- Forward over-direction creates longer lengths at the back
- Backward over-direction creates longer face-framing pieces
- The effect is approximately 0.8cm per 1cm of over-direction
