Fine hair has a thinner cuticle layer, so chemicals penetrate faster — requiring shorter processing times. Coarse hair has a thicker cuticle, so it resists penetration and needs longer processing. Medium hair falls in between. Always monitor development visually regardless of timing.

How does hair condition affect processing?

Virgin hair (never chemically treated) has an intact cuticle and processes predictably. Previously coloured hair may process unevenly. Damaged or porous hair absorbs chemicals very quickly and can over-process easily — reduce times and check frequently.

Does room temperature really affect colour processing?
